Abstract

In this article, I explore references to the affective dimension performed by voters of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) who say they do not entirely identify with its proposals and who have supported and/or support policies such as the legalization of abortion, egalitarian marriage, the ESI (Comprehensive Sexual Education) and the gender identity law. Considering the nodal role that the rejection of rights associated with gender and sexualities demands has in the new radical right, I focus here on how these followers put these issues aside. Through a series of interviews with cis men and women, I try to establish the conformation of what I call “doctrinal disaffection”; that is, the generation of an attitude of indifference towards these issues on the part of this group that contrasts with the references to intensity and viscerality by LLA activists who make the rejection of gender policies a primary axis. I understand that in moments experienced as historically critical, disaffection here does not imply indolence or apathy. Still, a diversion of affective intensity towards narratives sustained, for example, in pride and a distant and abstract utopian future.
